Last night both of Mum’s sisters came over for dinner. It is very rare that all three are in the same room at the same time, but only because of distance, not because of any conflict.
I guess I just never noticed it when I was younger, but they have an amazing ability to maintain two conversations between the three of them simultaneously. None of them can finish a sentence without being...

Is your farm a pawpaw farm? Sorry was watching the baby and tumbling and googling all at once
Ok, now I understand.
I grew up on a beef cattle farm just outside of Peak Crossing, QLD - not the paw paw farm that is the first result if you google “Peak Crossing farm”. In fact, I didn’t even know of that...
Things I don’t miss about QLD: Mosquitos.

Pawpaw?
I’m not sure I understand the question. If you’re asking about the tree in the photo: no, it is a palm tree. They do have a few pawpaw trees just around to the right of that photo though…
dustbowldance replied to your photo: It’s a bit wet in QLD
ouch, that doesn’t look fun. why were you in QLD?
I grew up on a farm in Peak Crossing, QLD (google it) so I took Friday off work and came up to visit my parents for a long weekend. I only saw my brother for ten minutes, but my aunty and uncle are down from Central Queensland and my other aunty is also coming over for dinner. I see my...

Dear Melbourne,
I am avoiding the internet for the next two days just so I don’t have to see your posts about sunshine and good weather. I am very disappointed by the rain and cold times that QLD has put on for me while I’m here. No doubt Melbourne will be back to normal when I return on Sunday.
Yours in jealousy,
Karl
I took tomorrow off work so I could have a long weekend at home in QLD. I was very tempted to just leave with no bag and loaf off my brother’s clothes the whole time, but eventually I caved and packed t-shirts and underwear. Probably a good move, since I don’t think rodeo attire goes well with my eyes (or my dignity).
I’m on the painful trek to Melbourne Airport via public...

the part where they were escorted away by metro staff was particularly shocking

Eventful Night on the Epping/Hurstbridge lines
Four youths fucking knobs got caught on a train with no ticket at Clifton Hill. They were being knobs, so they were escorted from the station, all the while hurling abuse at the ticket inspectors. As soon as they left the station, they jumped the fence and proceeded to walk along the tracks, meaning the train couldn’t leave. The Hurstbridge train was redirected to the other platform so it...
Any of you want to come and see Jason Lyttle from Grandaddy tonight? Currently have a free ticket going to waste because on of my crew pulled out. It’s at the Toff

Incubus @ Festival Hall, Melbourne - February 8...
Since becomming a fan in the early 2000s, I somehow managed to miss two Incubus tours - 2004 and 2008 - due to lack of funds. One direct consequence of this was that for the last seven or so years, they have been #1 on my “To See” list (note to self: update that list).
Incubus have drawn a bit of criticism of late (especially from a few of my friends) for producing shit music - a...

Tonight could go one of two ways.
My friends find me and we share the bliss of Death Cab For Cutie.
My friends don’t find me and I enjoy the bliss of Death Cab For Cutie by myself.
Either way, win!

St. Jerome's Laneway Festival, Melbourne -...
I hate crowds at the best of times, so I was somewhat dreading a festival full of hipsters held in a laneway… Luckily, the layout at the Footscray Community Arts Centre worked a treat as there were barely any cramped crowds all day. Moving between stages was a breeze and for most of the acts I saw, it was simple to just walk up to the front of the stage. I can’t comment on prices or...

Guys, I just figured out how to fix global warming!
We should invent some kind of database that you can access from your computer that has phone numbers and addresses of businesses in it. Then we can stop printing millions of copies of Yellow Pages, White Pages, etc. every year!
Oh, wait. The internet is a thing already, isn’t it?

My favourite thing about coaching volleyball in Hawthorn before work is the part where it takes me 90 minutes to drive the 13.5km home after work. Average speed: 9km/h.

Röyksopp @ Palace Theatre, Melbourne - February 2...
This show was nothing short of perfect. Röyksopp have never come to Australia before this tour and I hadn’t so much as seen a video of them performing live, so I went into the show with no idea what was about to happen. When they opened with a nearly 10 minute version of instrumental song Alpha Male, I was settling in for a downtempo night of ambient music, which was fine by me. A complete...

Soundgarden @ Sidney Myer Music Bowl - Feb 1 2012
The Bronx were heavier than what I normally listen to but as their set went on I enjoyed it more. Even though a friend who is a massive fan told me I was wrong, I found myself drawing comparisons to At the Drive-In. Later songs sounded like an early Grinspoon (ie. DCX3, Champion and Post Enebriated Anxiety) and apparently I was closer to the mark with that comparison. I’m not going to become...

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds @ Palais...
I knew nothing of Immigrant Union before this show and a few songs in I thought I was on a winner. They sounded like an upbeat rock band, with a hint of country influences (think Wilco). After those couple of songs, they lost me a bit as they delved deeper into the country sound - coming across as just another stereotypical country band with an american twang. This continued through most of the...
